Managed File Transfers: Beyond WAN Optimization for Digital Media, authored by Tom Ohanian
Abstract: The Media and Entertainment industry is in the midst of an enormous transition in many different ways. Business models are constantly being evaluated and new services are being offered. Large media conglomerates are implementing Media 360 programs, where content is made available on multiple distribution venues and devices. Because time is a huge factor in being able to generate and distribute files, file transfer protocols and file acceleration methods are being examined and adopted. In order to best address specific needs, it is important to understand how file transfer methods operate and what functionality to be mindful of in researching methods to move files as you implement a digital media distribution strategy. Making Media Move Across Digital Media Supply Chains, authored by Tom Ohanian
Abstract: Never before has the Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry seen such rapid change in business models, adoption of digital technologies, and global, distributed, collaborative workflows. New business ventures, consolidation of terrestrial-based television stations, broadband penetration, time-to-market pressures, and shifting audience viewership are some of the ingredients that are contributing to the re-definitions that are taking place in the M&E industry. Fulfilling the IPTV Digital Supply Chain, authored by Tom Ohanian
Abstract: Moving content from raw form to finished form and delivering it to cable head-ends and Telco providers has its own unique set of challenges. How does content flow from the person or companies who are producing and post-producing the content to the companies that are hosting the content for consumption? IPTV content must be transformed in some fashion, such as various bit rates, resolutions, aspect ratios, file formats, etc. And, ultimately, all of this content movement must be tracked for eventual billing, rights management, and monetization. IPTV represents yet another media supply chain that must be addressed and fulfilled. These challenges are formidable. Download the white paper.
Comparison of FTP and Signiant, authored by Ian Hamilton
Abstract: FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is used to perform file transfers over Internet Protocol (IP) networks such as the public Internet and corporate intranets. FTP is widely deployed and is widely accepted as a file transfer solution. However, are there downsides to using FTP for file transfers? This paper compares FTP with file transfer methodologies of Signiant's software applications and identifies the shortcomings of FTP that Signiant was designed to overcome. Download the white paper.
Digital Media Distribution Management and the Digital Infrastructure Landscape, authored by Steve Miu
Abstract: In the Media and Entertainment production cycle, "workflow" has often been emphasized as the key to content creation. There are many suppliers in this space claiming to be the single point solution for improving workflow; yet the reality is that there has been no silver bullet. This paper will explore the role that different players fulfill and how Signiant addresses technical and business pains caused by the convergence of networking and digital media in the post production and broadcast industries.
