Customer Challenge: Enterprise customers often have a variety of rich media stored in many different digital formats. The content could be centrally located or be distributed throughout the corporation in different offices. The dramatic increase in the number of files, package sizes, formats and users has increased the need for sophisticated Digital Asset Management (DAM) Solutions. The Artesia DAM, one of the industry leaders, provides organizations with a single interface for managing content essence and metadata. From a single custom branded web-based interface, users can securely log-in and ingest, index and tag their content. Additionally, assets can be searched, checked in/out and locked according to predefined policies.
With Artesia's integration of Signiant's file transfer functionality, assets can be easily shared across organizational and geographical boundaries. Enterprise customers can efficiently re-package content for distribution to a variety of media outlets including playout, VOD, mobile and web. To alleviate international shipping costs and delays associated with tape delivery, customers are using IP networks to deliver the file-based content. However, IP networks tend to have high latency and customers want to increase the efficiency of their IP-based delivery. They are searching for ways to increase productivity while not disrupting their existing workflow which is tightly integrated with their DAM tools.
Signiant and Open Text Team Up to Provide a Solution
DAM users can schedule, initiate and monitor the movement and progress of their digital media packages across the WAN using Signiant's technology. The Artesia DAM can be tightly integrated with the Signiant CDM software allowing users to maintain the look and feel of the DAM web interface while taking advantage of Signiant's file transfer and security technologies. This solution allows Signiant and Artesia customers to repackage their existing assets and monetize them faster and more reliably than ever before.
Primary Solution Components
Signiant CDM software and Artesia DAM Use Cases
There are a number of use cases for the Signiant/Artesia integration and 3 highlighted below.
Search and Download
Worldwide users have a need to access the Artesia DAM from virtually any network in the world and download the rich media content to their PC. Users requesting content can log-in to a customized Web page on the Artesia DAM and locate the content. Often the files are large (25 MB to 30GB+) and too large for email or effective FTP delivery. Users can search the DAM for their content and desired format (NTSC, PAL, SD, HD ...) and then select download which automatically initiates a Signiant transfer to the PC. With Signiant embedded in the web page, the download automatically starts the Signiant Java Transfer Engine and the file is accelerated to the user's PC regardless of the broadband connection type or configuration. The DAM security is retained and the file delivery to the end users is transparent except for the speed, it's fast!
Content Ingest
This use case is similar to Search and Download above except this usage describes how content is moved from a user's PC into the Artesia DAM. With a web browser and a broadband connection, users are able to connect and upload content quickly and securely into the Artesia DAM. An end user connects to the DAM web interface and logs in with the proper credentials. The user selects Import and locates the desired file(s) on their PC and selects Send. At this point, the Signiant Java Transfer Engine automatically loads in the user's browser and the Signiant accelerated upload automatically begins from the user desktop to the Artesia DAM.
Search and Send
In addition to ingesting or downloading content in and out of the DAM, users often need to move content to a business partner or different, often geographically dispersed, location. The end user logs in to the system like described in the cases above but they may have the proper system authorization to move content around the network. The content may be available in LA but it may need to be moved to international locations for localized playout or to business partners for a variety of reasons. The end user selects the content and the destination from a drop-down menu, a Signiant Job is initiated and the content is moved from LA to London, Paris, Singapore or anywhere that has a Signiant-enabled network. Upon arrival, an email notification is sent notifying personnel that content is available at the pre-defined endpoint.
