Signiant Powers Digital Media Aggregation for Hulu

Premier Online Video Channel Benefits from Fast, Secure, Automated Aggregation of Content

BURLINGTON, MA (April 14, 2008) — Signiant, the leading developer of digital media distribution management solutions for the telco, media and entertainment industries, today announced that Hulu is using its software to aggregate premium programming including television shows, feature films and clips, to be viewed on its recently launched channel, which is being hailed one of the best online video experiences available today.

With such an extensive offering of programming, the amount of content that is aggregated to Hulu can range in size from hundreds of megabytes to hundreds of gigabytes per day. Using Signiant, Hulu is able to facilitate fast, automated uploads of content from its vast network of content providers, including Signiant’s long-time partner, NBC. With Signiant, Hulu can prioritize bandwidth utilization based upon available network and the urgency of content delivery.

Hulu began using Signiant prior to its beta launch in November 2007 to move its premium digital content into its library. Contrast this with the alternative methods of ingesting video files from partners, and it became clear to Hulu that it should extend use of Signiant’s software to other content partners populating the online video service.

With Signiant, Hulu can intelligently allocate bandwidth resources with its partners and minimize the burden on human resources because of the ease of management, security, automation and acceleration that Signiant provides. Guaranteed delivery and automatic notification to interested parties further reduces the need for human intervention, enabling the growing video service to focus on its primary objective – to create the Web’s most comprehensive selection of premium programming

“Hulu is an impressive example of what a commercial online video portal should be, combining an exceptional viewing experience with premium content added each day across nearly every genre for people to enjoy,” said Robert Browne, founder and vice president of business development for Signiant. “We’re proud that Signiant serves a crucial role in Hulu’s ability to continuously add new programming to its library from content partners like NBC.”

Signiant’s Digital Media Distribution Management Suite provides an open, integrated, software-only solution for moving digital media within the internal and external production workflows of leading media and entertainment companies. Signiant’s software is compatible with both in-house and industry-standard applications, making it easy to integrate with any existing infrastructure and ensuring that the right media gets to the right place at the right time, reliably and securely.
