12 Defining Moments of 2024: Gaming

In 2024, Signiant focused on the gaming industry — a dynamic space where creativity and technology collide, driving rapid growth and unique challenges. This year, Signiant deepened its engagement in gaming, attending the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and collaborating with gaming companies on solutions for sharing their large game builds and assets, enabling remote production, distributed QA testing, and meeting ambitious timelines.

2024 marked Signiant’s debut at GDC, the premier event for the gaming industry. Meeting developers, publishers, technical innovators, and partners in this dynamic space was an invaluable opportunity to discuss how the Signiant Platform supports gaming studios of all sizes.

We had valuable conversations exploring different customer challenges and how the Signiant Platform aligns with their needs. The discussions highlighted how the rapid adoption of cloud workflows and the rise of global teams are influencing gaming production. Gaming companies face challenges similar to those in other creative industries, such as managing large data packages, working with remote partners, meeting tight deadlines, and enabling fast, secure collaboration across continents.

Signiant is looking forward to heading back to GDC in 2025!

This year, we gained valuable insights from a commissioned survey exploring key trends, pain points, and priorities for gaming professionals. Here are some highlights:

  • Game companies, their partners, and remote employees frequently use a combination of on-prem and cloud storage solutions. A flexible file transfer tool must effortlessly integrate with these varied storage environments.

  • Cloud adoption continues to accelerate, with 88% of studios now leveraging the cloud for storage, archival, and backups.

  • 27% of teams use multiple file transfer solutions, including online-sharing tools like Dropbox and FTP, indicating the need for a unified, efficient approach.

These findings reinforced the critical role that powerful file transfer solutions play in enabling seamless production for gaming companies.

The modern gaming pipeline is a marvel of creativity and complexity, but it comes with unique challenges:

  • Game companies, their partners, and remote employees frequently use a combination of on-prem and cloud storage solutions. A flexible file transfer tool must effortlessly integrate with these varied storage environments.
  • Security is paramount in gaming, and protecting IP is critical. As collaboration and data sizes grow, potential vulnerabilities increase, particularly during file transfers.
  • Low operating costs enable developers to channel resources to essential areas such as design, user experience, and post-launch support.

As the gaming industry continues to grow, so do the demands for efficient workflows, secure collaboration, and scalable solutions — and Signiant is ready to help studios level up their games.

To all the gaming professionals who connected with us in 2024: thank you for trusting us to support your creativity and innovation! Here’s to a 2025 filled with groundbreaking games, seamless production, and fewer bottlenecks!
